I just wrote a post over on www.Twiku.com about the amazing French time machine with the acronym FRANCE – something I have been meaning to write about for some time has been the relevant value of the need for car when buying a property.
My philosophy about living in France is that if you cannot walk to the boulangerie , buy a baguette and get it home when it is still warm – then you live too far from the town. So I have invented the acronym CAR for Car Always Required – I was going to say Car Required All Purposes, but that did not seem as neat, although perhaps it explains more about the problem of cars.
So many homes today seem to be built where the car is essential for every trip, you may find super home, but if you need a car to get a loaf of bread, a newspaper or a cup of coffee, then, to my mind, this is a big disadvantage.
In France I have loved living in the center of Paris and Nice when a car was a total liability – so if you are thinking of moving to France to live – plan life with no car and everything will be a bonus – they tell me it is better for the planet as well.
