Well actually “Cotes du Rhone” and Blue cheese – but my first note on the wines and cheeses of France is about a lump of cheese I bought this evening from the village shop – 2 euro for 254 grammes (about 3 dollars a pound) and a bottle of red wine labled “Cotes du Rhone 2005″, from a big anonymous winery costing under 2 euro a bottle. The cheese just says “blue” on the label- I am not sure if this means it is unhappy or related to the artistic aspirations of the fromage – but it is a rich creamy cheese with greeny blue streaks.
What can I say – delicious, a complete meal for two people for under 2 euro each.
